Our story

Made for Cheer. Made by hand.

My first-ever team bow

Where it started

Someone once asked me:

“Can you make our team bows?”

I said:

“I can try”

That first order became the beginning of BowsbyBecks.

Vulcanz days

How it really began

Cheerleading came first.

I joined cheerleading in high school at SMK Seafield, on Vulcanz All Girls. It gave me teammates I could rely on, friendships I still have today, and a place to figure out who I was.

Cheer taught me confidence, planning, precision and perseverance. Getting one set of motions perfectly in sync showed me how much work goes into making something look effortless.

My dad supported what I wanted to do — but if I wanted something, I had to work for it. So when I joined cheer, I paid my own fees. I was not happy about it. I was also stubborn, so I saved my pocket money and ang pau money for fees, uniforms, props and everything else. That stayed with me.

He also encouraged my love for art and handcraft — trips to the art shop, plastic car models, random DIY projects together. I went on to study Graphic Design, but I never really stopped making things.

After high school

I kept cheering on an all-star team. Then one of my juniors asked if I could make her team's hair bows. I didn't really know what I was doing. I just said “I can try.”

After that, I asked a couple more teams to give me a chance. Slowly, one team became another — each with its own designs, colours and challenges. And I kept learning.

The craft

Ten years of making it just right.

Ten years ago there was maybe one YouTube video on folding a bow — and nobody explaining which materials worked, how to get rhinestones right, or how to pull off trickier finishes and colour effects.

So I figured it out along the way. I researched, experimented, made mistakes and tried again. Being a perfectionist, I kept refining until I was happy.

I didn't know everything at the start. I just kept learning — and I still love it. When I sit down to make a bow, the outside world switches off. It's just me, the materials and getting the details right.

Making bows today

Why BBB exists

Made for the cheer community, by someone who grew up in it.

I've been the student saving up for fees, uniforms and bows. I know how quickly it all adds up for students and their families.

So I try to keep our bows reasonably priced without cutting corners on the detail. You should be proud of what you wear on stage — and it shouldn't have to cost more than it needs to.

I'm Becky

Today

I'm Becky.

I studied Graphic Design, but somehow I never managed to give up handcrafting. BowsbyBecks has been part of my life for around ten years now.

I still make bows because I genuinely enjoy it — especially sitting down with the tiny details and making something from scratch. And I have two very committed people behind me who help make BBB happen.

Thank you to the Malaysian cheerleading community for supporting BowsbyBecks through all these years.

From the first team order to today, every order, recommendation, competition and returning customer has been part of this journey.

Started with cheer. Still making with love.
